The Shelter Hostel Eilat
Your Eilat Retreat
First Impressions
Walking up to The Shelter Hostel Eilat on HaEshel Street, I’ll be honest — it doesn’t look like your typical hostel at all. This place has carved out its own identity as something between a boutique hotel and a creative hub, and you can feel that energy the moment you step inside. The vibe is relaxed but polished, sort of like staying at a friend’s really cool apartment if that friend happened to have impeccable taste in design.
The Space and Style
What struck me immediately was how they’ve managed to create this intimate atmosphere without feeling cramped. Each room has its own personality — some with exposed brick, others with local artwork that actually means something rather than generic hotel prints. The common areas flow naturally, and there’s this great balance between spaces where you can socialize and quiet corners where you can just be. I mean, you know how some places try too hard to be trendy? This isn’t that.
Location Perks
The location on HaEshel Street is actually pretty smart — you’re close enough to Eilat‘s main action but not right in the thick of the tourist chaos. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the beach, which honestly is perfect because you get the morning quiet before heading out. The neighborhood has this local feel with some great little spots for coffee that most tourists never find. There’s decent parking nearby too, which matters if you’re doing the whole Israel road trip thing.
The Experience
Here’s what I really appreciated — the staff actually knows the area and can point you toward things beyond the obvious Red Sea snorkeling (though yes, definitely do that). They turned me onto this local hummus place that became my daily breakfast spot. The hostel runs some group activities, but it’s not that forced “let’s all be best friends” atmosphere you sometimes get. People connect naturally, or they don’t, and both are totally fine.
Why Guests Love It
Look, with an 8.7 rating, this place is clearly doing something right. It’s the kind of spot that attracts travelers who want something more thoughtful than a standard chain but aren’t looking for over-the-top luxury either. The price point makes sense for what you get, and honestly, the whole experience feels more authentic than a lot of the bigger hotels in Eilat. You’ll probably end up staying longer than you planned — I know I did.

Great experience!
The accommodation excellent, cozy, clean, and very well located.
The hosts were super friendly and attentive. 100% recommended!
This was my 3rd time at this hostel as I love the cozy quiet and quirky environment which feels very calming . Not polished and modern like many places it feels friendly, intimate and safe where I can quickly relax . It’s quite social and easy to meet people as I always have lots of great conversations with a variety of people of different faiths, not just Christian.
What could be improved: Though mostly ok the internet was not very reliable so it was a challenge to find somewhere to work online comfortably. There’s a one week time limit to how long you can stay .
Friendly environment 💯 % with people from all over the world and everyone is welcome here without any judgment.
The Protection shelter is less than one minute from the doorstep away. 👍🏼
What could be improved: There is really nothing to mention.
Amazing place with free new testaments and music and friendly interaction.
Very welcoming atmosphere, people from all around the world. And I loved the singing before the bible studies, it's beautiful
What could be improved: Mattress covers and pillows crunch when you turn over.
I loved the people who stayed with me, mostly older people, Europeans, intresting chats and very good vibes.
Location: near the beach and central bus station; Shabbat evening meeting. The staff was very kind and friendly.
Great staff.. great place
What could be improved: Nothing
