Arava Hostel
Your Eilat Retreat
First Impressions
Walking up to Arava Hostel on Haalmogim Street, you’d be forgiven for wondering if you’ve stumbled onto something special. This unique boutique property doesn’t fit into the typical hotel rating system — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it interesting. The building has this laid-back desert vibe that immediately tells you this isn’t your standard Eilat accommodation.
The Vibe and Setup
What strikes you first is how the place feels more like a creative guesthouse than a traditional hostel. The owners have clearly put thought into creating spaces that work for both solo travelers and small groups. Each room has its own character — some are compact and cozy, others surprisingly spacious with desert-inspired touches that actually work rather than feeling forced.
Location Reality Check
Here’s what I appreciate about the location: you’re close enough to Eilat’s main action without being stuck in the middle of the tourist chaos. It’s maybe a 10-minute walk to the beach promenade, which means you can easily grab dinner or hit the bars, but you’ll actually get some sleep at night. The neighborhood feels more residential, so you get a better sense of how locals actually live here.
What Actually Works
The common areas are where this place really shines — there’s a communal kitchen that’s actually clean and well-equipped (rare for hostels, honestly). The outdoor space catches nice evening breezes, which matters more than you’d think in Eilat’s climate. I mean, when it’s 35 degrees outside, having a shaded spot to hang out becomes pretty crucial.
Why Travelers Keep Coming Back
Look, with a 7.5 rating, this isn’t going to blow your mind, but it delivers something that’s getting harder to find: authenticity without pretension. The staff actually knows the area and can point you toward the less obvious spots worth visiting. It’s the kind of place where you might end up chatting with other guests about hidden hiking trails in the desert or which local restaurant serves the best shakshuka — conversations that just don’t happen at the big chain hotels down the road.

Guest Reviews
Affordable, clean, nice staff
What could be improved: There was loud guests at night
The room was nice and cozy, The AC worked properly (The remote for the AC was almost dead so it's good to keep an eye out to make sure the remote for the AC has a good battery)
What could be improved: I woke up in the middle of night and and wanted to drink
But the cold water machine didn't work, only hot water came out
Location
Very clean & quiet
Large yard with tables & armchairs
Good value for the money
What could be improved: Nothing not to like
Very accessible, clean, has all the amenities needed and responsive personnel’s
What could be improved: The smell of cats poop outside
Great place to spend the night at, host was very pleasant, dedicated parking
What could be improved: Lobby was closed, bathroom was really small, price was rather pricey for what we got
The place and the room was super clean, the stuff were polite, the location is good, free parking,
What could be improved: Nothing...
we paid to upgrade our room as there were three of us traveling together so the size was good. Good kitchen facilities and had a fridge in the room so that was nice
What could be improved: can't really think of anything...
Good location (5 mins walk from the central bus station). Easy to find
What could be improved: I checked in quite late around 2am. The guy at the reception either found a wrong reservation or he just didn’t find mine or he was sleepy. He was going to charge me 240 Shekels. However, I paid on bookings fully before arrival. But after I told him, he was fine. Maybe he was as sleepy as me
We were staying here as a transition night from Petra, Jordan visit and return to Jerusalem. Location was very near central bus station and easy walk. Due to early departure we were not able to take advantage of common kitchen facilities on site or wonderful bakery not yet open as we passed on the walk to the bus station…smelled wonderful!
What could be improved: Room refrigerator light was rather bright through its glass door. Took a bath towel to cover and block the light.
Clean room, a little cramped but apparently that’s normal for Israel. working AC and always clean bathrooms! the kitchen is in the center and has everything you need. Spacious fridge. Free water from a filter! bathrooms are shared male/female - I really liked that. Supermarkets not far. Spacious outdoors in front of the hostel to hang out and chat.
What could be improved: I would have loved for the staff to quickly show me around and give me a “quick intro” f.e. tell me that there’s free water available from a filter and show me where my room is (was a little harder-ish to find). But minor aspects!
